Updated Activity Bus Schedule
The activity bus schedule has been updated. Please be advised that it is subject to change.
Student Reminder
Students are reminded to use the sidewalks when walking to and from school. Please do not cut through private yards in an attempt to shorten your walk. For safety purposes, use the designated sidewalks.
Skateboarding is prohibited on school property.
Was Your Student Absent from School?
If your student is absent, please send in a written note upon their return. Please include the reason for the absence, dates of the absence, as well as a parent signature. You may also fax the signed note to 703-530-6327.
Thank you.
Before and After School Safety
For the students who walk to and from school, the crossing guards have asked us to remind you to listen carefully at the cross walk. They will say the word "CROSS" which will let you know that it is safe to cross.
Bike Helmets Required
For those students who ride a bike to school, the Code of Virginia, as well as local ordinances, requires a protective helmet to be worn by every person below the age of 15. If you are riding a bike to school, you are required to wear a helmet.
No Skateboards on Busses
Attention all skateboarders - Skateboards are no longer allowed on buses. They are difficult to secure, which makes them a safety issue.
Safety Concern - Backpacks and Bags
We would like to remind students of an important safety concern - the carrying of string backpacks, tote bags, messenger bags and the like. These bulky items contribute to an unsafe environment in the hallway when someone is bumped and in the classroom where someone can trip over them. We ask that you comply with this safety measure by keeping these items in your locker, and if you are seen with one, you will be asked to promptly stow it in your locker.
Help Selecting Reading Books for Your Child
The Virginia Department of Education has added a new resource to encourage independent reading among our youth and thereby improve academic achievement for all students. The research is clear! Students who read have higher achievement in all subjects.
To help you and your child in choosing books that can promote reading growth, your child’s English SOL score will include a Lexile Level. The Lexile Level is based on your student’s SOL score on the English portion of the SOL and approximates his/her reading level. This means that your child should be able to read and understand books in a Lexile range of approximately 100 points below to 50 points above the designated score.
