Dear Marsteller families and friends,
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself as the proud principal of Marsteller Middle School. This marks my twelfth year as your principal and with each passing year I am even more aware of not only the honor that is bestowed upon me, but the responsibility I have to you and your children.
Marsteller Middle School has a distinguished and rich history dating back to 1963 when the original Marsteller Middle School was dedicated. At that time, it was known as the Emlyn Harrison Marsteller School, named for a country doctor from our area. We have so much of which to be proud including our Math and Science Specialty Program, our leading role in Project Lead the Way at the middle level, our highly celebrated music program, our acclaimed Athletic programs, our remarkable teachers and staff, and our reputation as a responsive educational setting where our partnerships with families support a world class middle school.
We encourage you to take advantage of the many opportunities to become involved at Marsteller. Please consider working with our PTO as they support students and teachers, or becoming a member of our school advisory council, where we work within a collaborative framework of shared decision making. We appreciate the support this community has always given us and welcome you into the Marsteller family.
Marsteller Middle School is designated a National School to Watch and as such, we are dedicated to academic excellence, developmental responsiveness, and social equity, with quality organizational structures to support our commitment to student learning. In This We Believe: Implementing Successful Middle Level Schools, it states:
All leaders at the middle level must possess a deep understanding of the students that have been entrusted in their care…Such leaders develop a safe, inviting environment that supports academic growth and personal development, encouraging students to become active members of their school and of their local and global communities.
It is this unwavering support of students that is exemplified by professional educators and educational leaders within Marsteller Middle School. It is a privilege to serve as your principal and to work with the talented and extraordinary students that make up our Bulldog family. Each morning we recite together a statement of unity which affirms our promise to each other and our shared belief in all we can do and be:
We are Marsteller. We are a community whose members know they are valued and respected. We choose each day to strive for excellence: in our school, in our friendships, and most importantly in ourselves.
Thank you for your trust in us and for your continued support.
Roberta Knetter, Ed.D.
