Life Science 2020 - 2021

The Power of Knowledge

Hi, my name is Dawn Ross (I'm the one on the right) and I wanted to introduce myself. This is my 13th year teaching and my 11th year teaching at Marsteller.  I have taught 6th,7th, and 8th grade science and 7th grade math in Middle School along with high school Biology, AP Biology, Chemistry, and AP Chemistry at Wakefield School in The Plains and College Biology 101 and 102 at Lord Fairfax Community College.  I have learned so much from teaching so many different classes throughout my career.  It has really helped me to better prepare my students for the future.

Prior to teaching I worked as an environmental scientist in South Florida after finishing my master’s degree at Florida Atlantic University.  It was wonderful to work with residents to help clean up and preserve the Everglades.

When I am not teaching, I am usually riding a horse.  My husband and I own a horse farm in Delaplane where I board, train and compete my client’s horses as well as my own.  The horses have been a huge part of my life since I was 5 years old and have helped me learn so much about Biology.

My husband and I also love to travel, and we have enjoyed lots of adventures to lots of different counties.  We really enjoy the outdoors, the water and spotting wildlife. The picture above is from our trip to Alaska, eating lunch on a glacier after a four mile hike.

I am looking forward to an interesting and great year!
