Hello! I hope everyone is doing well and staying safe.  I wanted to let you all know that I have updated my Teacher Page again with some more learning opportunities for you. Just go to the link on the left-hand side of the page that says Lessons/Activities for Week of March 30 - April 3 and scroll to find your class by period.  I have included optional activities for you to work on each day that include reading and an activity to support your learning.  This work won't be graded, but I will be happy to give you feedback on anything you need help with while doing the activities.  Also, if you have any problems logging in to Newscela.com, please let me know, and I can help you with that.  There are also other activities and links under the Online Reading and English Practice Link.

It has been great to hear from some of you!  I really miss all of you!  Please know that I think of you all the time and wonder how you're doing.  I would love to hear from everyone.  If you email me, I promise to write back quickly. Take good care of yourselves and your families.

Good morning! I hope everyone is doing well.  I have updated my teacher page with some great resources for you to keep you busy and learning during this time away from the traditional classroom.  Go to the Online English and Reading Practice link on the left-hand side of this page.  I have included numerous online sites that you can use to help you with learning English, becoming a better reader, and discovering new things.  If you have any problems using these links, just let me know.  You will have to create a user name and password for some of them, but I don't think that will be a problem.  I would love to hear from you, so please send me an email! I promise to answer it quickly. I miss you all! Take care and be safe.

Dear Students,

Wow, what a strange couple of weeks it has been.  I hope you are well and staying busy. Please know I miss seeing you in class every day, and I'm very sad that our school year ended the way it did.

I have a great way for you to spend your free time and practice reading and learn more English. You have access to an online reading program called Lexia Power Up.  You can spend hours doing a variety of activities that will help you to be a better reader, and you will learn many new English words at the same time.  You should be able to log in with your school log-in following the directions I will list below.  If you have any problems, I can send you a badge that you can use to log-in. I will add more online resources for you throughout the week, and I am always available through my email.

Directions for accessing Lexia:

go to Marsteller homepage

go to Students Link at the top of the page

go to weblinks

go to Clever

go to Lexia Power Up

You will have to do a placement test, so you can start at your current level, and then you're on your way.

I would love to hear from you if you want to send me an email or a message on my homepage.  I think of you often and hope you're safe and well. Best wishes.

We have finished all online ACCESS testing for this year.  The students worked hard on the four-part test, and I think their scores will reflect their hard work. We will have the scores in June.

Periods 1
Students are reading nonfiction passages and using the text to do a variety of activities. This week we read "Can Animals Think?" and used the text to do a summary on a graphic organizer. We will use the information from the graphic organizer to write a summary paragraph.

We also are working on irregular past-tense verbs and answering question that use "did" to form a questions. Students will have a variety of practice activities including answering real-world questions.

Periods 3, 4, 5, and 7
Students are working on writing summaries of nonfiction text using a graphic organizer to record the important details. They will use the graphic organizer to form sentences from the details and then create a paragraph that summarizes the text. Periods 3 and 7 are reading about animal migration to do their summaries, period and periods 4 and 5 are reading about the country of Nepal.

In addition, we are working on learning about common roots and affixes to figure out unfamiliar words in context.  The roots we have focused on so far are: tele, cent, dorm, circum, com, duct, inter, equa, aqua, and port.  Students will continue to learn additional roots, prefixes, and suffixes.

Period 6-Students are reading nonfiction text about Roberto Clemente and using a graphic organizer to record important details they will use to write a summary paragraph.
