Welcome to Week 5 of Virtual Learning!

Hi! I hope everyone enjoyed the touch of summer weather we got this weekend!

In the weekly file folders on teams and my class web page, I have included the normal notes, practice worksheets and video lessons.  However, instead of the worksheets, I am asking students to attempt three online activities.

The first is posted in microsoft teams.  If students login to teams and click on assignments, they should see an equation practice activity to do online and submit.

The 2nd activity is through the online textbook.  Students need to login into Clever and click on Big Ideas Math.  There will be an assignment posted for them in my class.  If they have trouble finding clever, they can google "marsteller weblinks" and it will take them to the school page that has the clever link.

The final assignment is on www.quizziz.com.  Students need to join the class by copying and pasting the following link.  I will assign a quiz in it.

The fun part of all of this is I don't see what the students see!  If they are having trouble accessing anything, they can come to Tuesday's zoom meeting and we will try to figure it out from there.  They can also email me at anytime and we can try to figure it out.  I am curious to see what goes well and what does not, so we can adapt from there.  Feedback is welcome and encouraged!

Each week I will post 1-2 video lessons, Practice Worksheets and IXL modules on a designated review topic.  They are outlined in the chart below!  All work can be found in the files section on the class web page and in Microsoft Teams.   For the practice worksheets, I will also post the answer keys.  However, if you are not sure about an answer or want additional feedback, just email me your questions or your work and I will be happy to help!  I will monitor your progress on the IXL Modules.

I added a folder which contains the summer learning packet students normally complete and turn in to their Algebra 1 class in the fall.  While I could not post the answer key, students are welcome to email their work to me either in full, or one page at a time, and I can offer feedback.  I can also help if they get stuck!

This week we are focusing on equations.  Try it with and without DESMOS and compare your answers!

I will host virtual office hours every Tuesday from 12-1 via zoom.  To join the meeting, during the designated time block, copy and paste the link below into your browser. The first meeting is Tuesday, April 14 at noon.

Don't Forget!

The county has put together a webpage with additional resources. They can be found at:

Also, keep in mind that when learning at home, students do not need a 7 hour day of work.  Encourage students to explore new hobbies and learn things outside of the school curriculum!

As I mentioned in my last email, all Virginia Schools are closed for the rest of the academic year.  We are still waiting to hear what that means for us.  I will update you as soon as I know anything!
