Marsteller MS Math & Science Specialty Program

The math and science program is an interest-based program that provides students actively interested in math and science with opportunities to explore in-depth mathematic and scientific concepts in an intensive program of study while encouraging and developing critical thinking and problem-solving skills and exposing them to STEM opportunities and real-world applications.

Mission

To provide students with opportunities to explore in-depth mathematical and scientific concepts and principles in an enriching program of study while further developing their critical thinking skills.

Program Features

  • Enriching STEM learning in the Science Enrichment class.
  • Students are placed in math class according to readiness.
  • Family nights are offered throughout the year.
  • Any student who has an interest in math and science may apply. 
  • Students who do not fall into Marsteller's base school boundaries will apply as a transfer student to be entered into a lottery.
  • Once accepted into the program, students will be expected to meet Marsteller program requirements throughout the year:  Students are expected to maintain at least a B in Math and Science and Cs in all other classes. Beginning next year, the 2026/27 6th-grade cohort will be required to participate in the science fair. Additionally, students are required to maintain satisfactory conduct, effort, and attendance (according to PWCS regulations). Parents sign acknowledgment of requirements when accepting a seat or signing on for the program.

Who can apply?

Applications for this program are open for rising 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students who are not currently in the program.

When to apply?

Specialty program applications will be accepted November 3, 2025 - February 1, 2026. No late applications will be accepted.

School-Based Information Sessions

  • Fall Date is October 30th at 6 pm in Marsteller's Bull Dog Hall. A Spanish interpreter will be available on-site.
  • Winter Date is January 13 at 6 pm in Marsteller's Bull Dog Hall. A Spanish interpreter will be available on-site.
  • Snow date is January 20 at 6 pm; event will happen on this date if the Winter event is canceled.
