Announcements

Fall sports tryouts will begin on Monday, August 31, 2026, immediately after school until 4:50 p.m. All interested students will need a current sports physical, proof of completed concussion training, and a blue sports emergency card. Try-outs will end around 4:50 each day. Parents/guardians are not allowed to attend/watch try-outs or practices. Activity buses will run each day of tryouts.

Any questions, please email Mr. Kibler at [email protected].

Athletes need to be picked up in the main parking lot, not by the school. Only athletes, coaches, and school personnel are allowed at try-outs.

Each year we have around 60-70 girl’s try-out for 18 spots on the Marsteller girls’ volleyball team.  Your daughter will need 3 things to come to try-outs each day.  One they must have a current sports physical dated after May 1st and on the Middle School Physical form.  Two they must have completed online concussion training which is in Parentvue this school year.  Three they must return the blue sports emergency card on the first day.

The girls will be evaluated each day on different skills and given a score for each evaluation. Athletes should be at all 3 days of try-outs.  At the end of the 3 days I will choose the top 18 players.  These scores will be the basis for choosing the team, not league play, prior experience, or attending camps.

We understand that many girls have prior experience playing in recreation leagues and on travel teams.  This has no bearing on making the team, only the 3 days of try-outs will be used to select the teams. They will be trying out against all 3 grade levels, meaning that 6th graders will compete against 7th graders and 8th graders.  There is no rule that we must keep a specific number of athletes from each grade level.  Again, their score from the 3 days of try-outs will determine if they make the team.

Athletes will be evaluated by the following:

Day 1 forearm pass/bump; looking for proper form, correct height, and accuracy

Day 2 overhead pass/setting; looking for proper form, correct height, and accuracy

Day 3 Serving; 10 serves scored by in play or not in play.  1 pt for each serve that is correct.  A missed serve is any serve that does not go over or in play from behind the 30 ft baseline.  Serving is not determined by under hand or overhand serving.  If a server attempts overhand and does not get any in play their score would be a 0.

Attitude; we are looking for girls willing to work hard and be a respectful supportive teammate.

I hope this helps you understand our try-out process.  Try-outs will be for three days immediately after school until 4:50.  If your daughter makes the team they will have practice every school day after school until 4:50 and activity buses will only run Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.  They must be picked up by 4:50 on Mondays and Fridays.  Good luck and thank you for your interest in our program.

Sincerely,

Coach Kibler
