The International Thespian Society comes to Marsteller!
Marsteller Middle School has officially chartered a Junior Troupe of the International Thespian Society, a 96-year-old, 139,000-member honor society for theatre students. Famous members include Tom Hanks and Adam Driver.
The Junior ITS is the middle school version of the ITS (much like the NJHS is the middle school version of the NHS). The Junior ITS does not replace the Marsteller Dramatix and any student is still welcome to audition for any production. Rather, the Junior ITS is a way to honor the hard work and excellent performances of our talented actors and crew members. Marsteller is the only middle school in Prince William County to hold a charter.
Students are inducted by earning points via participation in Marsteller theatre activities. Students need to be re-inducted at the high school level; however, students inducted into the Junior ITS are eligible to transfer a minimum of five of the required points towards induction in the high school ITS. Both Patriot and Colgan have very active ITS chapters and many high school students have communicated to me their desire to earn more points.
How to Join: Students must earn a minimum of five (5) points by participating in Marsteller theatre/Drama activities to be inducted. Once inducted, members continue to accrue points to earn stars. There are many ways to earn points, including involvement in crew/technical theatre and participating in theatre outside of Marsteller. In addition to rewarding participation in the theatre arts, students can also be designated as "Thespian Scholars" by demonstrating excellence in academics.
Please see this induction points sheet for specific information about how to qualify.
